Lagavulin 16 years is a whiskey produced since 1816 on the Scottish island of Islay, specifically in the town of Lagavulin, which gives it its name. It is classified in the Single Islay Malt Whiskey category and is produced in one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland.
The double distillation of Lagavulin 16 years is the slowest that is done in the distillery, which is also a producer of other drinks. The first of the distillations in one of the old stills, shaped like an onion, takes around five hours, and the second, about nine.
This slow process, including the fermentation of the barley, which takes between 55 and 75 hours, gives this whiskey, which ages in dark oak barrels for 16 years, a body and roundness of great quality.
The Lagavulin 16 Year Old Whiskey has a deep amber color and a medium body. On the nose, the mixtures of peat and some vegetables stand out in a first impression, together with notes of cereals. On the palate it is certainly smoky, pleasant on the palate, with certain marine touches.
