Abuelo 12-year-old rum is the brand's great reserve, as it reflects its great passion for the production of aged rums. It is a rum of Panamanian origin, richly aged in American white oak barrels. It is made from the best raw materials, using the best processes of continuous fermentation, distillation and a particular aging process, which make it a well-known, select rum of extraordinary quality.
It results from the distillation of cane honey, from selecting the best white oak barrels and from spending time under the tropical heat. It is characterized by its character, its smoothness and complexity that will satisfy the most sophisticated and demanding palate.
The story of Abuelo who belongs to Varela Hermanos S.A. dates back to 1908. When Don José Varela Blanco, a young Spanish emigrant, founded the San Isidro Mill in Pesé, the first sugar mill in the recently formed Republic of Panama. Starting in 1936, with the distillation of cane juice, Varela Hermanos S.A. expands and consolidates in the international market as an exporter of fine spirits and high quality rums.
This rum has a deep dark amber color. With complex aromas and caramel notes and sweet wood. It has a lot of body, roundness and texture that flows slowly on the palate. It is smooth on the palate, maximum balance between fruity, aged, sweet notes and a very long finish.
